Position: Junior Energy Consultants

About the World Bank Ethiopia Country Office

The World Bank Ethiopia Country Office is seeking up to three (3) short-term consultants to provide support for energy sector engagement in Ethiopia. The positions are open to Ethiopian nationals and will be based in Addis Ababa.

Responsibilities

As part of the Ethiopia energy team, the selected consultants will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Participate in the design, preparation, and implementation of lending operations, including cross-cutting aspects such as gender, environmental and social safeguards, procurement, climate change, and citizen engagement.
  • Support the design, preparation, and implementation of sector strategies, studies, analytical work, and advisory activities.
  • Assist the energy team in task planning, budget planning and management, project monitoring, and internal and external project coordination.
  • Support the planning, preparation, and execution of missions, including mission announcement, schedule, meeting notes, briefings, aide-mémoires, management letters, etc.
  • Follow up on agreed actions and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Liaise with and support teams from other sectors of the World Bank and external stakeholders as required.
  • Prepare proposals, analysis, and other relevant documents to mobilize resources for project preparation and implementation.
  • Prepare progress reports for existing trust funds and monitor and manage trust funds in line with the trust fund administration requirements.
  • Prepare and manage a localized database of projects under execution and being prepared.
  • Prepare dissemination materials related to project design and preparation, including presentations, briefs, and other communication materials.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be 32 years old or younger.
  • Must have a master’s degree in engineering, economics, business administration, or equivalent areas relevant to energy sector development.
  • Must have at least 2 years of relevant experience in the energy sector in the public or private sector or international institutions with a track record of strong performance.
  • Highly motivated, with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and demonstrate flexibility in adjusting to changing work program requirements.
  • Possess active listening skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Quick learner with a strong interest in working in the energy sector.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills, with the capability to prepare high-quality short and long documents.
