Position 1: Finance Intern

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • Enrolling at a university in Ethiopia at the undergraduate or graduate level or a recent graduate (within the past two years) in Accounting/Finance or a related field is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office is required.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Finance supports UNICEF Ethiopia’s programme and operational activities through financial planning, disbursements of money and payments, treasury and accounting, financial analysis, and resource reporting. In this context, the Finance intern will assist the team with financial recording, fund and payment disbursements, and resource financial reporting. The Finance intern will support the team in meeting and adhering to UNICEF’s financial and programmatic policies, processes, guidelines, performance standards, ethics, and integrity.

Based in Addis Ababa, the Finance intern will undertake the following tasks:

  • Provide support to organize meetings and participate in relevant meetings to take meeting notes and action points.
  • Prepare finance-related outgoing letters.
  • Assist the Finance team in the preparation of periodic reports.
  • Submit relevant documents to the bank and collect bank slips.
  • Maintain files including bank documents, outgoing letters, financial records, agreements, and other documents.
  • Keep filing systems in which documents could be readily available and easily traced.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Position 2: Hact Intern

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • He or she should be enrolled at a university in Ethiopia at the undergraduate or graduate level or be a recent graduate (within the past two years) in Accounting/Finance or a related field is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office is required.
  • Fluency in English is required.

The Deputy Representative Operations is in charge of the Harmonized Approach to Cash Transfers (HACT). HACT is a multifaceted issue that serves as the primary framework for cash transfers to partners. HACT is made up of four primary components that act as pillars in the application of the HACT principles. Capability evaluations, cash transfers, assurance activities, and capacity development are examples of these. Monetary transfers to Implementing Partners (IP) account for a sizable component of UNICEF’s financial contribution to programmatic results.

HACT Internship 1: Under the supervision of the Senior Project Associate, this intern will support the HACT Hub team in keeping the shared document tracker for request and liquidation, follow up on pending transfers with the team, and participate in activities supporting the HACT team as needed. This includes: 

  • Update and keep track of the shared point HACT cash transfer tracker.
  • Support the team in identifying which are the pending transfers so that proper follow-up is done for the respective FO and sections.
  • Support the team in having the proper cash forecast for the week, by updating the tracker.
  • Support in the preparation of periodic reports.
  • Assist in spot checks as required

HACT Internship 2: Under the supervision of the HACT Specialist, the intern will support the HACT team in carrying out assurance activities, uploading reports on eTools, organizing documentation for spot checks and audits for external service providers, and following up on pending action points. This includes:

  • Assist in compiling data for spot checks and audits of external service providers.
  • Upload spot check and other reports on eTools.
  • Support follow up on pending assurance action actions.
  • Support in preparation of periodic reports.
  • Assist in spot checks as required; and
  • Support in facilitating capacity development training.

Position 3: Evaluation Intern

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • He or she should be enrolled at a university in Ethiopia at the undergraduate or graduate level or be a recent graduate (within the past two years) in development studies, social sciences, statistics, economics, education, health sciences, behavioral studies, law or related fields is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office is required.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of more than a language spoken in Ethiopia is an advantage.
  • Being active in human rights, child rights, women rights, youth related initiatives (including in university groups, sport clubs, others) is an asset.
  • Experience in research/evaluation and fieldwork/data collection among marginalized/vulnerable communities, including children, is an asset.

Under the supervision of the Evaluation specialist, the intern will undertake the following (non-exhaustive) tasks:

  • Support in the implementation of the evaluation unit plan (including, possibly, some administrative tasks);
  • Take responsibilities and initiative in the National Evaluation Capacity Development initiatives supported by the unit;
  • Take the lead in the systematization and storage in online systems and archives;
  • Be key resource person in child-centered evaluations;
  • Take the lead in linking the unit to youth groups working on related issues;
  • Take the lead in connecting with “EvalYouth” and creating initiatives for young evaluators in the country and for promoting the evaluation culture among young colleagues in the office.
