Job Description

All God’s Children International (AGCI) is non-governmental organization that implements child care in Ethiopia including education sponsorship program and reunification/reintegration program. AGCI intends to hire Communications Director on contract basis:

Job Summary

The Communications Director is responsible for leading efforts that enhance the mission and vision of AGCI in Ethiopia through communicating AGCI’s impact and building intentional relationship with stakeholders. He/she maintains collaborative relationships with other work units such as in-country staff, US staff, and beneficiary communities, provides critical communications for the organization, and supports AGCI’s various projects and initiatives. Exceptional writing and storytelling abilities, strong relational skills, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously are key for success within our dynamic team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively across AGCI’s International, Marketing, and Advancement teams to meet various organizational communication needs, while coordinating and executing tasks aligned with
  • AGCI’s strategic plan
  • Write content related to AGCI’s impact in Ethiopia; ensure voice, quality of content, and communications are consistent with organization’s message and voice  
  • Bring AGCI’s mission to life by using impactful storytelling that connects with AGCI’s audience 
  • Gather photo and video content as requested and submit to main office using various technological platforms
  • Meet various deadlines across multiple projects
  • Build trust and relationship with beneficiaries through establishing consistent presence in AGCI’s House of Hope, Education Sponsorship Communities, and other locations as requested
  • Facilitate the communication, execution, and creation of detailed itineraries for all donor and staff trips 
  • Cultivate strong relationships with AGCI donors and stakeholders while hosting multiple vision trips throughout the year
  • Be present throughout all Vision Trip activities as AGCI’s primary representative
  • Acquire a deep understanding of organization’s overall programing, communications, and advocacy objectives
  • Articulate strong ability to discuss AGCI’s multiple orphan care initiatives in Ethiopia and in other regions of the world with major donors, connecting individuals to the heart of AGCI’s work 
  • Maintain, update, and ensure the accuracy and inventory of all vision trip materials and needs
  • Know details of all field locations including primary contacts of each location with the ability speak confidently to staff and donors 
  • Ensure overall quality of AGCI Ethiopia’s communication strategy through fostering ongoing contact with community leaders, advocates, staff, and stakeholders
  • Organize reports on AGCI’s impact across programs in Ethiopia as requested
  • Coordinate the printing/production of materials in-country as needed
  • Perform other tasks within the scope of his/her work, as assigned by the Country Director 

Terms of Employment: One-year contract, including 45 days probation period, with possibility of renewal, based on performance and availability of fund 

Job Requirements

Qualifications 

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 
  • College Degree plus three or more years related work experience in communication
  • NGO experience preferred
  • Ability to speak and write reports in both Amharic and English; English fluency required
  • Project and time management skills and experience with the ability to stay organized and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong relational and listening skills with the ability to connect with individuals of all backgrounds
  • Ability to thrive and work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly growing program, in addition to remaining self-motivated and goal-oriented
  • Experience and ability to work with children of all ages and their parents, without discrimination
  • Availability to work evenings and occasional weekends as needed
  • Ability to address conflict and contribute alternative solutions in a direct, constructive, and positive manner
  • Ability to participate in collective, non-hierarchical decision making within all staff environments
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and ability to learn customized software
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to coordinate and oversee story collection, production, and distribution process
  • Ability to create impact stories for fundraising campaigns and preparing content for marketing projects 
  • Collaborating with Country Program Director to compile annual and other reports as needed
  • Ability to develop strong relationships and collaborating with key stakeholders
  • Display adherence to the organization’s mission; maintain proficient knowledge of the organization’s history and programs
  • Juggle projects with competing deadlines from multiple departments
