Position: Technical Advisor – Chemicals And Environmental Hazards

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the Radiation, Chemicals and Environmental Hazards (RCE) input in Ethiopia.
  • Maintain key stakeholder relationships.
  • Provide technical input for chemical preparedness, surveillance, response, and recovery in Ethiopia.
  • Support the National CBRN Technical Working Group and relevant tasks.
  • Explore opportunities to embed Environmental Epidemiology into FETP.
  • Assist the Ministry of Health with their poisons service roadmap.
  • Develop, test, and validate chemical management policies, plans, and SOPs.
  • Advance RCE work with Africa CDC.
  • Identify cooperation areas and deliver sensitization webinars.
  • Manage projects within defined areas and liaise with stakeholders.
  • Receive and assimilate technical information about chemicals.
  • Prepare project documents and reports, including complex reports.
  • Maintain situational awareness and inform the UK-based RCE team.
  • Identify and address professional development needs.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Degree qualification in a relevant science subject.
  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience in environmental, public health, or chemicals.
  • Familiarity with public health, environmental issues, and chemical safety.
  • Experience in chemical-related public health risk assessment.
  • Stakeholder management experience with government departments and agencies.
  • Presentation, training, and workshop delivery experience.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation principles.
  • Understanding of national and international partners related to chemical hazards.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze information and recommend actions.
  • Initiative, adaptability, and flexibility.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualification or experience in environmental public health or related discipline.
  • Previous experience in public sector or bilateral/multilateral organizations.
